Moores Hill & San Jacinto Exchanges Complete, Steady Progress into Cross Plains

Our Fiber to the Home campaign continues to be the main focus of the Cooperative. The demand for fiber remains high, and we remain committed to bringing this technology to our members as efficiently as possible. We have completed the Moores Hill and San Jacinto exchanges and are working diligently on the Cross Plains exchange and will wrap up with the Canaan exchange.

One of the biggest advantages that our customers will notice when they order the FTTH service is the Lightning Fast Internet. Enjoy even more streaming video, music, and movies. Upload large files faster, enjoy a smoother online gaming experience, and much, much more.

SEI Communications is working hard for you and is committed to completing the Fiber-To-The-Home build-out to our entire serving area. We ask for your patience during this period and believe you will find FTTH benefits worth-the-wait!

    Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is fiber optic cable?
  • Fiber optic cable is a bundle of optic threads made of pure glass each about the diameter of a human hair. Fiber optic cable uses light instead of electricity to carry digital data signal. Therefore it is able to transmit information at virtually unlimited speed and capacity (higher bandwidth).

  • What is Fiber-To-The-Home?
  • Fiber-To-The-Home or FTTH, is the delivery of a communications signal over optical fiber from the operator's switching equipment all the way to a home or business. FTTH is a relatively new and fast growing method of providing vastly higher bandwidth to homes and businesses.

  • Why is fiber preferred to copper or coaxial cable?
  • Optical fiber is unique because it can carry a high bandwidth signal enormous distances. The longer the distance the signal travels on copper or coaxial cable, the lower the bandwidth. Fiber networks can also be upgraded by changing the electronics or using different lasers that increase the bandwidth without changing the fiber itself. That's why fiber networks are said to be "future proof".

  • What's in it for me?
  • FTTH technology will open a whole new world of superior quality internet and phone services to you and your community. SEI continually monitors new technology and innovations to determine their viability for our subscribers as future offerings. With FTTH and the increased bandwidth it provides, you will be able to enjoy music, videos, and streaming with Lightning Fast Internet speeds starting at up to 25Mbps.

  • What will happen my area?
  • When SEI upgrades the FTTH network in an area, the entire exchange will be completed. The old copper cable will no longer be maintained and will be retired once service is cut-over to the fiber optic cable.

    Installation

  • Will anything need to be mounted on my home or business?
  • A small box, known as an Optical Network Terminal (ONT), will be placed outside of your home/business. It contains the electronics that convert a signal of light from the fiber into usable phone and internet. In case of a power outage, (phone service only), a battery backup box will be installed to supply power to the ONT. Under normal use the battery will last up to 8 hours. (SEI will need access to an electrical outlet, per electrical code specifications).
