  • Configuring the Comtrend CT-5071 ADSL Router
    1) From a web browser, go to "http://192.168.1.1". Login with the username "root" and the password "12345".
    2) Ignore the "DSL Auto-connect" and click the "Advanced Setup" link on the left.


    3) Click on the "Add" button in the center window.


    4) Under the ATM PVC Configuration, set the following properties: VPI = 0, VCI = 32, Service Category = UBR Without PCR, Enable Quality Of Service is unchecked, and then click "Next".


    5) Select "PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) radio button, leave Encapsulation Mode set to LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING, and leave Enable 802.1q unchecked. Click "Next".


    6) Enter your SEIData supplied username (without "@seidata.com") and password in their respective fields. Leave PPPoE Service Name blank and set Authentication Method to "Auto". Enable NAT, Enable Firewall, and Fixed MTU should be checked while all other checkboxes are unchecked. NOTE: The "Dial on demand (with idle timeout timer) can be checked if desired. Set the MTU field to 1492 if not set. Click "Next".


    7) On the "Enable IGMP Multicast, and WAN Service" screen, Enable IGMP Multicast is unchecked, Enable WAN Service is Checked. Leave Service Name setting as-is. Click "Next".


    8) Click the "Save" Button.


    9) Click on the "Save/Reboot" button.


    10) Modem will then proceed to reboot and your modem is now configured for SEI DSL Internet Service.

    Configuring for Bridge Mode
    Before proceeding, be aware of the following:
  • By placing your DSL router in bridge mode, you are foregoing the basic firewall protection that the Comtrend router provides while in router mode.
  • By placing your DSL router in bridge mode, you will be required to configure PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) on the device you are directly connecting to the DSL modem. For instance if you are using a wireless router, you will need to configure it's WAN port to authenticate via PPPoE. If you are connecting a PC directly to the DSL modem, you will need to use PPPoE software on your PC to authenticate.
  • By placing your DSL router in bridge mode, only 1 device may be directly attached to the DSL modem. In order to use more than 1 computer through the modem a additional router will be required which will be the 1 device plugged directly into the modem.

  • Before you start, make sure of the following:
  • Unplug the phone line from the modem while doing this and plug it back in once your modem is in bridge mode.
  • Reset the modem back to factory defaults by holding the small button on the back of the modem for about 10 seconds while the modem is powered up.
  • You are successfully able to log into the modem.

  • 1) From a web browser, go to "http://192.168.1.1". Login with the username "root" and the password "12345".
    2) Click the "Advanced Setup" link on the left.


    3) Click on the "Add" button in the center window.


    4) Under the ATM PVC Configuration, set the following properties: VPI = 0, VCI = 32, Service Category = UBR Without PCR, Enable Quality Of Service is unchecked, and then click "Next".


    5) Select "Bridging" radio button, leave Encapsulation Mode set to LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING, and leave Enable 802.1q unchecked. Click "Next".


    6) Ensure that the "Enable Bridge Service" is checked. Keep the "Service Name" as-is and click "Next".


    7) Click the "Save" button.


    8) Click on the "Save/Reboot" button.


    9) You are done. The modem is now in bridge mode and will no longer provide you an IP. You will now need to use an external router capable of PPPoE or a PPPoE dialer on your PC. If you need to re-access the modem, you will need to manually assign the IP 192.168.1.10 to your PC with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, then you can access http://192.168.1.1. If you need to return your modem back to router mode, press the reset button until the lights flash red on the modem, then release.

    Configuring Pinholes/Port Forwarding
    Notes:
  • Before you begin you must know the IP of the computer you wish to forward the inbound port traffic to.

  • 1) From a web browser, go to "http://192.168.1.1". Login with the username "admin" and the password "12345".
    2) Click the "Advanced Setup" link on the left.


    3) Click on the "NAT" link on the left.


    4) Click on the "Add" button.


    5) Check if the setup you need is in the pre-configured list under "Select a Service".


    6) If not, create your own Custom Server. For example, to setup a port forward for VNC which uses TCP port 5900 (by default) to a computer on your network with the IP address of 192.168.1.2:

    Select "Custom Server" and set it's value to "VNC". Complete the IP field for your desired forward next to "Server IP Address". Add 5900 to all four port fields in a single row and ensure that protocol in this case is set to TCP. Click "Save/Apply".


    7) A pinhole/port forward has now been created.
