The Madison Police Department, Jefferson Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police are conducting a joint investigation reference a missing person. Last seen in the evening hours of Saturday May 3, 2008, is Daniel Reaves white male 25 years of age. Daniel was last seen wearing a light blue T-shirt, khaki (long) shorts, and light brown shoes w/ steel toes. Daniel is 5’11” tall, weighs 145 pounds, has dark brown hair and light blue eyes. Daniel Reaves was last seen by an acquaintance on May 3, 2008, in Jefferson County. Daniel’s vehicle, a 1999 Gold Chrysler Sebring convertible was located in Madison, on Green Hills Drive, Saturday May 10, 2008. The vehicle is believed to have been at this location since the day Daniel went missing. An extensive ground search has been conducted of the area. Police are asking anyone with information about Daniel’s whereabouts, or if anyone has seen Daniel, or his vehicle prior to, or after May 3, 2008, to please call. May 5, 2008 The Madison Board of Public Works and Safety approved the promotion recommendations made by the Madison Police Commissioners. The appointments will take effect on May 11, 2008. They are as follows: Lieutenant Terry Wells to the rank of Captain. Sr. Patrolman Dan Slygh to the rank of Lieutenant. Sr. Patrolman Bruce Heaton to the rank of Sergeant. Sr. Patrolman Jeremey Perkins to the rank of Sergeant. Patrolman Tyson Eblen to the rank of Sr. Patrolman. Patrolman Jonathon Simpson to the rank of Sr. Patrolman. Patrolman William Watterson to the rank of Sr. Patrolman. Patrolman Ben McKay to the rank of Sr. Patrolman. Chief John Wallace also made the announcement that Sergeant Jeremey Perkins and Sr. Patrolman Tyson Eblen will be assigned to the Detective's Division.

The Madison Police Department conducted a drug sweep of the Madison High School, Madison Junior High School and Shawe Memorial with the assistance of the Indiana State Police, Charlestown Police Department, Versailles Police Department, and North Vernon Police Department. There were two arrests made in connection of the search at the Madison High School. April 28, 2008 April 15, 2008, the Madison Police Department investigated a burglary at the Prince of Peace Church’s Parish Office, located at 305 W. State Street. A small amount of money and other parish property was taken during the burglary.
April 28, 2008, Madison Police Officers Dan Slygh and Tyson Eblen continued the ongoing investigation by interviewing eighteen-year-old Nicholas Stitzel. After concluding the interview, officers filed preliminary charges of burglary class “B” felony and theft class “D” felony against Mr. Stitzel. A fourteen-year-old male juvenile was also charged in this investigation. The juvenile also faces preliminary burglary / theft charges.
April 28, 2008 On Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 6:10 PM the Madison Police Department received a call to 1505 Cragmont Street in reference to a person shooting a gun off inside the residence. Captain Gilles arrived to the scene and made contact with Kevin R. Lewis who had a Hi-Point 9mm rifle lying beside him. Captain Gilles was able to secure Kevin R. Lewis and the rifle without further incident. During the investigation Captain Gilles, Sr. Ptl. Perkins, and Patrolman Guzman spoke with witnesses that identified Kevin R. Lewis as the person shooting the weapon inside the residence. At that time Kevin R. Lewis was arrested for Criminal Recklessness with a weapon a class D Felony. Kevin R. Lewis was also cited for discharging a firearm in the city limits.
April 28, 2008 April 26, 2008, at approximately 3:28AM the Madison Police responded to a theft from vehicle report in the 400 block of Crestwood Drive. Two suspects were observed leaving the area on a moped. Officers were in the area at the time of dispatch, and were able to locate stolen property, in the roadway at Cragmont & Eighth Streets. A short time later, Captain David Stidham located the suspect vehicle (moped) on Banta Ave. The vehicle was occupied two times, however the passenger fled from the vehicle when observing police. Captain Stidham continued his pursuit of the moped, as it fled through yards, still on Banta Ave. Captain Stidham exited his patrol unit and checked the area on foot, as the suspect vehicle traveled behind a Banta Ave. residence. The suspect, a sixteen-year-old male juvenile, and his moped were located. The juvenile was detained, transported to the Madison Police Department where his parents were contacted. The juvenile faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement by vehicle a class “D” felony, theft class “D” felony and possession of stolen property class “D” felony. A substantial amount of stolen property was recovered, which is believed to have been taken, in several theft from vehicle cases. The investigation is ongoing. Captain Stidham was assisted by Lieutenant Richard Mundt and Patrolman Derk Napier.
April 28, 2008 April 21, 2008, the Madison Police Department investigated a burglary at Bev’s Hair Chateau 2503 Michigan Rd. Stolen from the business was an undetermined amount of money, tattooing equipment, and various other store products. April 25, 2008, as part of the ongoing investigation, Patrolman Tyson Eblen interviewed Nicholas Stitzel age 18, of 1809 Blackmore Street Madison, Indiana. After concluding the interview, Mr. Stitzel was arrested on preliminary charges of burglary a class “C” felony and theft a class “D” felony. Stitzel was transported to the Jefferson County Jail. April 27, 2008, a second arrest was made in connection with the April 21st burglary of Bev’s hair Chateau. Madison Police Patrolman Jonathon Simpson detained a fourteen-year-old male juvenile and filed preliminary charges of burglary a class “C” felony and theft a class “D” felony. The investigation is ongoing.
April 16, 2008 At the Madison City Council meeting last night the Council adopted an ordinance establishing a Police Merit Board. The Police Merit Board will be made up of two appointees from the Mayor, two appointees from the officers, and one from the City Council. The Police Merit Board will replace the Police Board of Commissioners as the advisory board for the police department and the Board of Public Works and Safety as the governing body.
April 14, 2008 The Madison Police have offered a conditional offer of employment to Ray Norris. The conditional offer of employment is pending acceptance from the Indiana Public Employee's Retirement Fund. Ray Norris was offered the conditional offer of employment after Christopher Giltner did not meet the requirements set by the Indiana Public Employee's Retirement Fund.
April 3, 2008 On April 1, 2008 Officer Joe Baker made an arrest of a 16 year old male juvenile in connection with a burglary that took place on March 31, 2008. During the course of the investigation Officer Baker learned of the male juvenile’s involvement. Officer Baker was able to locate several of the stolen items at the residence of the 16 year old male juvenile. The 16 year old male juvenile was arrested for, Burglary, Theft, Residential Entry, Possession of Stolen Property, and Possession of a Handgun without a license. On April 2, 2008 Officer Joe Baker made two additional arrests and recovered additional stolen items. Arrested were a 15 year old male juvenile and a 16 year old male juvenile. They were both charged with Burglary, Theft, Residential Entry, and possession of Stolen Property. Officer Baker was assisted by Lt. Hall with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.

On Saturday, March 29, 2008 Officers from the Madison Police Department were investigating a theft of several items from the Riverboat Inn. Officer Watterson and Senior Patrolman Slygh developed a suspect and they learned that the suspect also had outstanding warrants from Scott County and Brown County. Officer Watterson had given the description of the vehicle that the suspect was in to Patrolman Simpson. Patrolman Simpson located the vehicle on Madison’s hilltop. Senior Patrolman Slygh and Patrolman Simpson tried to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle at Clifty Drive and Cragmont Street. The suspect then failed to stop and began to accelerate. The vehicle then turned on to Ingles Street and continued into the Madison High School Parking lot. It then exited the parking lot back onto Clifty Drive cutting off traffic. The vehicle then traveled East on Clifty Drive failing to stop for stop lights and weaving in and out of traffic. The vehicle continued East on Clifty Drive to US 421. The vehicle then turned South on to US 421. Officer Watterson attempted to deploy Stop Sticks at US 421 and Walnut Street. The suspect vehicle swerved into the northbound lane traveling South to avoid the Stop Sticks. The suspect vehicle continued traveling South in the North lane of US 421 and then turned East onto Fourth Street. The suspect then turned South on to Walnut Street. The suspect then turned East on Third Street and then South on East Street. The suspect then crossed Main Street and turned East on Second Street. The suspect continued East on Second Street to Highway 56. Officers continued to pursue the vehicle at a safe distance due to the driver’s total disregard for the personal safety of other drivers on the road. Ptl. Simpson advised the that suspect was passing vehicle around blind spots, double yellow lines, and with oncoming traffic.
Madison Police Department Dispatch had contacted Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department when the pursuit began to head towards Switzerland County. Officers from the Vevay Police Department had deployed Stop Sticks that were successful at Highway 56 and Highway 129.
Sr. Ptl. Slygh located the vehicle behind a Medical Office building. Sr. Ptl. Slygh located a female passenger in the car but the male driver had fled into the woods. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Wanted on two warrants from Scott County and Brown County is 31 year old white male Devin R. Floyd. Devin R. Floyd will also be facing additional charges locally after review from the Jefferson County Prosecutors Office. The Madison Police Department would like to thank the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, Vevay Police Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana Conservation Department, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.
March 26, 2008 On Tuesday March 26, 2008 at approximately 8:00 PM, the Madison Police Department received a call to the 400 block of OVO Drive in reference to an intoxicated male urinating outside an apartment. Senior Patrolman Jeremey Perkins arrived in the area and observed a male matching the description the caller gave walking across a field towards the 2800 block of Windridge Drive. Senior Patrolman Jeremey Perkins stopped the male he identified as Joshua M. Eggers in the 2800 block of Windridge Drive. Senior Patrolman Perkins administered field sobriety tests to Joshua M. Eggers which he failed. Senior Patrolman Jeremey Perkins then place Joshua M. Eggers under arrest for Public Intoxication. During a search incident to arrest Senior Patrolman Jeremey Perkins located over 60 grams of marijuana, rolling papers, and scales used to weigh illegal drugs. Joshua M. Eggers was charged with Public Intoxication and Possession of Marijuana over 30 grams. Thanks to a concerned citizen calling and the quick action of Senior Patrolman Jeremey Perkins we were able to get some more drugs off the streets of Madison.
March 19, 2008 Troy Meyer contacted the Madison Police Department and regretfully declined the offer of employment. The Madison Police Department Board of Public Works and Safety had approved a hiring pool. The Madison Police Department has now offered a conditional offer of employment to Seth Melton. Seth Melton has accepted the conditional offer of employment with the Madison Police Department. March 17, 2008 The Madison Police Department has extended conditional offers of employment to James Lee, Delbert "Dean" Woolard, Troy Meyer, and Christopher Giltner. The conditional offer of employment is pending acceptance from the Indiana Public Employee's Retirement Fund.
